TraceNook Support

Basic usage notes, troubleshooting steps and how to reach us.

Current platform status

  • Android: in internal testing.
  • iOS: not released yet.
  • PC manager: a local-network helper shipped with the app; you start it from your phone when you need it.

The release progress page is the source of truth for per-platform status.

Where your data is stored

  • Your data is stored on your own device by default.
  • No account is required.
  • TraceNook has no cloud service that stores your household inventory.
  • Uninstalling the app or clearing its data removes that data from the device.
  • Export a backup yourself before switching phones or reinstalling.

Backup and restore

  • Backups are encrypted files; you must set a password when exporting (at least 6 characters recommended).
  • A backup includes items, storage spots, photos, TraceNook labels and settings.
  • If you forget the password, that backup cannot be restored — and we cannot recover it for you.
  • Restoring replaces your current data; the app takes a snapshot of the current data first.
  • Labels you printed earlier keep working after a restore.
  • If the password is wrong or the file is damaged, the restore stops and your current data is untouched.

QR labels

  • A label is bound to a storage spot; scanning it shows what is inside that spot.
  • Print it and stick it on a medicine box, drawer or bin.
  • A label can be rebound to a different spot.
  • If a scanned label belongs to another device's database, the app tells you.
  • Each label prints its Code — when the camera is awkward, type the first 8 characters instead.

PC manager and local network

  1. Put your phone and computer on the same Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap “Start computer access” in the app.
  3. Open the address shown by the app in a computer browser.
  4. Enter the 6-digit pairing code.

Data only travels inside your local network, and the service stops automatically after 30 minutes of inactivity; start it again from the phone when that happens.

If the computer cannot connect, check in this order:

  • Are both devices really on the same Wi-Fi?
  • Are you on a guest network? Guest networks usually isolate devices.
  • Is the computer's firewall blocking it?
  • Is a VPN or proxy active?
  • Was the address typed correctly?
  • Has it already shut down after 30 minutes of inactivity?

Starting PC access on a public network is not recommended.

FAQ

I just added an item but cannot find it
One-sentence entry first creates a card to confirm. Nothing is saved until you tap “Confirm add”.
Reminders are not firing
Check that notifications are allowed for TraceNook, and that the app is exempt from battery optimisation.
The computer cannot connect to my phone
Work through the checklist above. The usual causes are guest-network isolation and the 30-minute auto shutdown.
How do I move my data to a new phone?
Export an encrypted backup on the old phone, transfer the file, and restore it with the same password.
Is my data still there after uninstalling?
No. Data lives on the device, so uninstalling or clearing app data removes it. Backup files you already exported elsewhere are unaffected.
Does TraceNook upload my inventory?
No. There is no account and no cloud service storing this data.
